Last Saturday I was working on my computer when it suddenly said "Beginning Dump of Physical Memory". At first I was not alarmed, I know I have seen that before on my computer at work. I tried to re-boot and it initially seemed like all was fine but then there was an empty blue screen with a flashing cursor. Then we got the dreadded "No bootable drives detected". and the computer began making these horrible clicking noises. Turns out the hard-drive is a goner!
We are off this weekend to go investigate computers and decide what to get. Any suggestions?

FINALLY! A DOCTOR WHO MAKES HOUSE-CALLS!

I would try to stay away from any with the Windows Vista platform. It's alot easier to format docs and programs to load off of Windows XP. You can get Windows XP put on any computer. Itmay cost a few bucks to do that, but it saves you alot of frustration in the end.
We love our Gateway FHD2400 24 inch Widescreen. We have no problems with Vista. Steven and Marti
Hi Stacy
It's a sad day when our computer dies, I've had a couple die and it's a mess, but we will get though it.
Good luck and success.

Stay with XP Pro or you might have to buy more than just a new computer -- you may end up needing new printer and other items, ie scanner, etc .
Hope you find a good one! Sorry about the failure. Can you save the info?
Scott, Steven & Marti - I have heard mixed information about the wonders of XP vs. Vista.
Lou - this is the first time this has happened to me. I have had viruses that needed fixing but never a total death before.
Bob & Carolin - What did it do to the printer, etc?
Paddy - My brother is going to see how much he can retrieve for us. We had some stuff backed up but not the most recent. The worse loss would be pictures that we might have had.
Stacey, the 24 inch widescreen is incredible!
Love my Acer mini because I can take it anywhere, and it fits in most of my purses. I can always use the big screen at the office... And the mini is so inexpensive that you can buy a second computer, if you decide it's too small for you, but you'll still have the mini for traveling and appointments.
Steven & Marti - my husband really thinks we should get a laptop
Margaret - I have been lobbying for one of those so that I can bring it with me all the time - so far no luck with hubby
Stacey,
The way they have come down in price I think a lap top is the only way to go. Get as much memory and as big of a hard drive as you can. And know in a couple of months it will be old technology.
