I used to be a voracious reader. It wasn't unusual for me to read several books each week. As I've gotten older and now have many more responsibilities, jobs, kids, husband, etc. I don't get nearly as much quality reading time as I would like.
Over the past few years I have neglected my passion for reading allowing all the demands of being the mom of young children and a young real estate career to take over the time I would usually have devoted to reading. I have gone from reading a minimum of 1 book each week to sometimes not even reading at all in a month. For awhile, magazines were my best substitute but they never fulfilled me in the same way.
I realized this year that I really miss my reading time a great deal and I set myself a challenge to read 25 books this year. For me reading is the only true ME time that I get where I am doing something that I totally want to do without having to consider what other people want. I have begun to try to carve out moments here and there that I can enjoy a good book.
Yesterday I finished my 16th book which puts me 5 books behind where I should be to make my goal of 25 books for the year.
To make my goal I am going to have to average more than 1 book each week until year's end, yikes!
If I had an extra three hours each week I would definitely use it to curl up with a good book!

FINALLY! A DOCTOR WHO MAKES HOUSE-CALLS!
Information deemed reliable but not guaranteed!

That is a great idea! I wish I had time to read something aside from emails. :) I wish you luck.
Dr. S, I, too, have always been a voracious reader and found that being the item that is "negotiated" amid all the demands on my time. And then I discovered audio books. I download them to my iPod (and now my iPhone) and listen while I am doing all the household tasks that don't require my attention, just my time: laundry, cleaning the house, preparing dinner, etc. I listen to an average of 3 books per month. Of course, listening to a book takes much longer than actually reading one but the trade-off is fun because of the professional voice actors.
Dr. Stacey-Ann ~ I can completely relate to you. I love to read, but never seem to have enough time....an extra 3 hours per week.....hmmmm
Dr. Stacry-ann.. I'm on board with you on this one.. I wish I had 3hours to read a really good book... Beach and a book is all I need on a vacation.
That is a great use of extra time. Especially as many of have gotten shorter attention spans - we read blogs and snip-its of articles from a RSS feed. Reading an entire book seems like quite a luxury.
That would be a good post, Stacy-Ann. A list of the 25 books with a short review for all of us. It would be interesting to see what you read and why. Did you like the books and what lessons you took from them?
