Last year I challenged myself to read 25 books. I love to read but often find myself too busy to devote time to it. However, in 2011 I decided that my only real resolution would be to make the time to enjoy the people and activities I love.
Unfortunately, I fell shy of my reading goal managing to only read 21 books in 2011 (this is probably double what I read in 2010).
My favorite book read in 2011 was "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett.
Other books I really enjoyed were:
"Ah So Wi Do It" by Joelle Cohen Wright - a hilarious collection of Jamaican sketches written by my very good friend from college
"Still Alice" by Lisa Genova - a book about a person's descent into Alzheimer's told in the first person
"Band of Sisters" by Annette Lyon - a book about a group of women who support each other while their husband's are away at war.
The most recent book I read (completed on 12/30/2011) was "Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope" by Gabrielle Giffords and Mark Kelly. I did enjoy this book but wished they had waited to write it until we had a more complete picture of her recovery.
I also read "The End of Normal" by Stephanie Madoff Mack. This was written by Bernie Madoff's daughter-in-law. The one married to the son who committed suicide. I must say I found her a very unlikable person, despite what I know she had been through.
I read the book "One Day" by David Nicholls which came highly acclaimed and recommended. I hated it. I found it tremendously boring and the only reason I finished it is because I was delayed in the Miami airport and it was the only book I had with me.
2011 was the first year I began reading electronically on my I-pad and I really enjoyed exploring some of the free books available on Amazon.
This Christmas my husband gave me a Kindle so now I can read anytime.
I am once again challenging myself to read 25 books in 2012. Hopefully, I will be able to hit and exceed my target this year. Anyone want to join me?

Stacey-Ann, Welcome to the New Year of 2012! Hope y'all had a mighty fine and safe New Year's Eve!
Happy New Year to you and your family!
May each and everyday bring you and your family an abundant of blessings for the rest of 2011 and all the way though the New Year of 2012!
Have a good one

Stacey-Ann, for a moment I thought you were challenging all of us to read more which is great idea. Before blogging, reading books was the major way to exchange ideas, tell stories and widen our individual horizons. The book I recommend to anyone thinking about Santa Fe is Bless Me Ultima. Happy New Year!
I'd say 21 books is a resounding success! Kudos to you and here's to your continued success in this new year Stacey-Ann.
Stacey-I also love to read, you got me thinking and looking around my office to see how many books that I read last year, it looks like a pile of them. Just finishing "Game Changer"a backroom look into the 2008 election campaign strategies. Have fun in 2012.
Best
Stacey-Ann, how did we manage without our ereaders? I've had my Kindle for 4 years and recently added the ipad2 and the ipad4s - I'm just a reading machiine now!
Thanks for your reviews on The End of Normal and One Day - I was thinking about downloading them but will save my time and money.
Good luck with your reading in 2012
Dale - Happy 2012 to you as well
Emily - feel free to join me in the challenge. I will check that book out
Kristen - thanks
Adrian - goodreads is a great way to keep track of what you've read
Susan - I read End of Normal on my kindle - I can probably lend it to you.
Stacey-Ann, Congrats on the 21 books. I have no idea how many books I read in a year, but now that I have my Kindle I'll be able to keep track! What a fun idea! Thank you!
I'm impressed. I know you have a busy life and finding time to read is never easy.
Stacy Ann being an avid reader and book collector I find this a great Challenge. I suggest you should raise the bar and maybe then if you miss it you will still reach 25 so may I suggest 30?:))
Marge - Let me know how many it is
Ellie - Since it relaxes me I need to make time
Endre - 30 is next year's goal :-)
So glad I happened upon this blog. I wanted to read more books, so I joined a Book Club, knowing that would put me at at least 12, and has led to many more. Some of my favorites this year were:
Unbroken - Lauren Hildenbrand
The Forgotten Garden - Kate Morton
The Art of Racing in the Rain - Garth Stein
Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter - Tom Franklin
I too read "The Help" and loved it.
Karen - i'm going to check out some of the ones you have listed.
