Realtor Courtesy

I mentioned in an earlier post that I am selling my own home.  It's given me a clear vantage point for how rude some realtors can be.

  • We've had realtors make appointments to show early on a weekend morning.  We've gotten up early and left with the children, drove around for 2 hours only to come back and see no business card.  My husband and I were left in limbo - did they come or not.  When I followed up with the realtor he said "Didn't see we ran out of time."  -  At 10am?

  • Many realtors don't leave their cards so were are not sure who has been through our home.

  • Yesterday (Memorial Day) someone rang the doorbell and told my husband she was a realtor and she wanted to show our home.  He asked her to give him 2 minutes.  He said he ran upstairs to grab the kids and to make sure they had not made a huge mess when they were playing.  When he came back down he opened the door to see the woman driving away.  When he called her she said "Maybe we'll try to stop back."  Needless to say he was furious!!

  • Many realtors don't give feedback on the property.  I have an email feedback service and I got feedback the other day that said "Absolutely uninterested".  Now it was my turn to be furious.  I don't mind if your buyers aren't interested in my home, however, as a professional courtesy you can provide some feedback about condition, price, etc.

  • Less than 25% of the realtors who have been through my home have responded to the email feedback requests that they receive from me.  I feel that it is an important part of my job to provide useful feedback to a listing agent when it is requested.

good post...however about the feedback..this is a waste..If I was interested in your home, I would make an offer. If you are getting no feedback, that means the agent and buyer did not want your home...in our area, Las Vegas, there are so many homes available...usually agents show many homes-who can remember all of them..they will pick the ones they like..if no offer, they were not interested!!!

Stacey-Ann, it seems if a fellow REALTOR® cannot give another REALTOR® the professional courtesy of a response, how professional are they with their clients. Good luck with the sale of your home.

Good Post!

Hey Stacey-Ann, Unfortunately our business has it's share of bad people in it...too ! Hopefully this poor market will weed alot of them out for us .

Good post. I agree that Realtors should leave their card and at least give a little feedback that could be constructive.

Hello Stacey-Ann, I think courtesy is a lost virtue. Maybe people are just too busy? Good luck with the sale of your home!

Sorry to hear Stacey-Ann. I hate rude people, and if they are Realtors. Tsk tsk. But keep your head up and just let things go. Things will eventually turn out for the better. Good luck!

Stacey-Ann-I know exactlyhow you feel about the rudeness of people. Just common courtesy some of these people just don't get it.

And feedback is a BIG pet peeve with me...how hard is it? I just had another Realtorask for feedback by email and I immediately sent it to her. So how hard is that. I think some of these people just need to take a class on common courtesy.

Hang in there and good luck on selling your house.

I guess it takes too much time to leave a card and let you know how the showing went-- bet the same agents would be mad if treated the same way.

Thanks to all of you for your support.  Its nice to know i'm not the only person who thinks courtesy is important.

Thanks for all the well wishes about selling my home.

I asked for feedback from an agent one time and he told me if his clients wanted the house he would write a contract for them but don't bother him for feedback.

Courtesy is synonomous with professionlism. But people act like jerks in ANY profession. The 25% you mention that do respond, are the ones doing 80% of the business anyway.

Hi,

Not going to comment on the Realtors so far...

Leave a bowl or dish with a sign "Realtors please leave a card" next to it.  I know some people who don't like cards left at their listings and sometimes we forget anyway.

Send a personal e-mail to the Realtors who showed your house.

Hi the house you showed on main street is my home, I would love to know what your people thought and what you thought of it.  Thanks.

You might get more of the information that you wanted. ( Hope these ideas help)

I hope your house sells soon!

Good Luck!
