GOOOLD!!!!!

This has been an exciting time for all Jamaicans.  As a nation, we take tremendous pride in our strong athletic program.  Many of the best sprinters (including many on the US, Canada, & British teams) are products of this program.  Despite this, the title of World's Fastest Man has eluded us - until yesterday.  For the first time in the nation's history the 100m Olympic GOld Medal was won by a Jamaican - Usain Bolt.  Not only was it is a victory but it was done in World Record time.

Today the excitement continued when the Jamaican women swept the medals in the 100m finals.  We are not able to see the races because NBC will not show the finals live, instead we have to wait for re-runs in primetime.  However, my phone has been ringing off the hook with family members from Jamaica calling to share the new (they see it live because they have BBC coverage).

My sense of pride is so immense.  For a country as small as Jamaica to hold the titles of "World's Fastest Man" and 'World's Fastest Woman" in the same Olympics is phenomenal.  I just wanted to congratulate the Jamaican sprinters who have brought so much honor, glory, and pride to their nation.

Congratulations to your country. I was watching it this morning and it was truly inspiring.

I watched the guy win. He was a man among boys and he is a big guy at that. Seems like a nice guy at that. Did not get to see the womens either but will watch the reruns with you. Being from a small state as Lousiana we tend to really pull for the hometown people. Congrats

Ohhhhhh Stacey-Ann I was thinking about you last night as the Bolt of Lightning ran his race.  OMG can that man run.  I have never seen anything like it. A world record without even trying it seemed.  Good for Jamaica and for you!!!

Stacey-Ann - He was amazing!  It even looked like he slowed down a bit in the end.  Can you imagine how fast he would've been if he had kept his fastest pace...?  :)

Ray - Thanks, the entire country is celebrating.

Eric - He does seem like a nice guy and they all seemed very sportsman like.

Vickie - We are proud, thanks.  I do feel a bit sorry for the other Jamaican guy in the race that never seems able to realize his potential in major competition.

Paddy - He really made it look easy.

Debi - I agree that it would have been quite a time if he hadn't slowed down.  According to my dad he was probably saving his energy for his next event.

Stacey-Ann...

The Jamaicans have become the country to beat in sprinting. How exciting for the women to sweep, wow!

I just commented on Kara's blog, and was thinking... Stacey-Ann must be dancing in the streets!  I guess I was right!  It is about time!  It is great how an "unknown" just ran away with it...

this was traditionally such an American event, I think the last time there was not an American on the podium was in 1980 when the olympics were boycotted...

Congratulations Jamaica!

Sharon - we are proud

Robert - We were close to dancing in the street, we figured the new neighbors might not be impressed :)
