I am a complete facebook addict! I love looking at the photos of my friends and their families and seeing how they have changed. I have reconnected with many old friends this year since joining and i've even see people that I hadn't seen in almost 20 years.
Imagine my horror when I realize that facebook may have been the reason my computer is currently useless.
The details of the virus are on the facebook home page (and all over the web). However, you apparently receive a video, click on it then it tells you to update flash player and then ...BAM! We are thinking that my son actually clicked on it while he was playing on the computer (he's 3).
Since then the computer turned off the virus program, would not let us turn it back on and keeps randomly opening websites all over the place. After trying for hours to clean it ourselves we threw in the towel and took it to the geek squad.
The verdict: $200 and 3-5 business days before I can get my computer back. YIKES!!!!

FINALLY! A DOCTOR WHO MAKES HOUSE-CALLS!

Thanks for the warning. I recently discussed this with a close friend and am careful in what I open up. I'm sorry to hear that you had problems with it; people who do this ought to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
They cant prosecute people like this because they are doing it from foreign countries who dont have our laws.
Its too bad it will cost so much to fix it. If you want the best free antivirus program get a program called Avira and its completely free.
I hate this. I have been ignoring requests from my friends because I don't know if my friends are sending them or not. To make matters worse, items and icons have been disappearing off of my computer. I no longer have calc.exe and me without a scientific calculator while in the middle of math class is just too much!
My kid keeps floating them in the toilet and my attitude used to be, "oh well, at least I have the computer." Now I don't... "They" should be prosecuted for destroying people's programs and smacked down under the federal laws for unauthorized computer intrusion. I am so sorry for your grief.

My laptop has been acting crazy lately, too. I thought it was planned obsolescence and have just been preparing to buy a newer, better, faster machine.
Check out Brad's blog about the Antivirus Pro 2009 Virus. This might be your problem.

Stacey -
I got a Facebook notification from someone I know well - "You have to check out this new picture of you."
I clicked on the link, but stopped short of downloading the flash - glad I did!
How can anyone be so devious as to infect thousands of strangers computers? To what end/
DEAN & DEAN'S TEAM CHICAGO
Wow Stacey i never would have thought Facebook could have hidden enemies. Thanks for the info.
Jon - I really wish they could be prosecuted but I guess we would have to find them first
Eau Claire - someone else mentioned this Avira program. I think we'll have to check it out.
Carolyn - thanks for the feature! I see you have kids like mine. It would be really hard to be in a math class without a computer. Good lcuk.
Amanda - it may be spyware and other things dragging the computer down. What a pain.
Judy - thanks for that I had never heard of that virus. Frightening how many things there are out there.
Dean - that's the exact thing. Thankfully you didn't click the link. Everything I read suggested that you should be fine then
Kathy - its amazing that there are people out there who would think it was fun to destroy other people's stuff.
This is what virus it is:

Stacey-Ann...
At some point, these malicious perpetrators must be brought to justice. Wanna know what I think? I think this behavior is encouraged by those that profit from anti-virus sales and repairs. Just once, I'd like to see someone being forced to pay for all of the lost time and money spent.
I hate viruses. Thank goodness I don't use facebook. Thanks for the warning though.
That really stinks. Now you mention it my desktop may be infected. It keeps turning itself off!
Eau Claire - thanks
Richard - interesting thought!
Gene - the sad thing is that if it isn't facebook its some other way that they try to get you
Ellie - That sounds like a problem. Do a scan and see what you come up with.
Thanks for the warning! That stinks...
